Girl Scouts Changing Uniform Supplier to ChinaThis petition is addressed to any person with concerns for the Future of Girl Scouting
Eligible Signatories: any person with concerns for the Future of Girl Scouting (If this field is left blank it is implied that all free people of this universe are eligible)
In recent news programs and articles it has come to light that Girl Scouts of America are seeking bids, including a company from China to make the organizations uniforms and sashes.
A large group of Girl Scouts and Leader's are very upset with Girl Scouts of America's decision to possibly take the uniform sales of the United States, and have been having discussion on how to get their voices heard. A Cadet Girl Scout from my Troop has suggested to start a petition for people that share our "voice" to sign, so that Girl Scouts of America can see that their decision is not a supported decision - by it's Girl Scouts, it's Leader's, and it's supporting Communities!
The factory that currently makes the uniforms, Jacie Evans Inc. in Passaic, N.J. employs 90 workers, and Girl Scouts of America has been it's sole client for about a decade. The owners of the family-run factory say that they may be forced to close or lay off workers if the Girl Scouts of America chose to move the business. We are concerned, no only for the 90 workers - but also the 90 families that will be affected by this!
The motive the Girl Scouts of America is using to seek bids for the uniforms that "we have an obligation to deliver the best value to our member and their parents". As of the date this petition was created, the uniform retail price is $5.50 to $6.50 for the sash, and $15.75 to $20 for the vest or smock. We feel that saving a dollor or two is not worth putting 90 employees jobs at risk, and would rather pay the extra dollar or two to keep the work in the United States. If Girl Scouts of America continues with the bid processes, and indeed changes the uniform and sash supplier to China - my Troop will be buying the material to make our own - keeping OUR uniform American made!
Barry Horowitz, vice-president and genreal manager for merchandise for the Girl Scouts said no decision has been reached. The time to voice our opinion is NOW!
By signing this petition you are in agreement with the petition's creator that the making of the Girl Scout uniform and sash merchandise should remain in the United States of Amercia.
