I recommend we enforce what we have in place before attempting to add new measures. We have a by-law that does not allow for dogs running free off-leash - these dogs also continue to foul the community and all dog owners are considered suspect. Please step-up enforcement and we'll likely see improvement on all fronts. Our children should be safe in their community. |

I am just shocked that a pet owner would allow this to happen. |

We agree that we need a plan for problem dogs that is clearly stated in our by-laws and enforceable. Our daughter was bit while babysitting in Redwood last year, and our son was bit as an infant and actually needed plastic surgery to his face/eye. It is incredibly stressful to experience events such as these. Going through the courts afterwards is not the best solution. It is costly, time consuming and doesn't necessarily give the results we are looking for. Prevention is key, but if fences are not allowed, we need another strategy to deal with dogs before bad things happen. |

I believe that there is a need for improved legislation that will allow all residents to be protected from uncontrolled dogs. |

I agree with the need to have stricter animal bylaws that are enforceable, and it is being discussed. My family was bit four times last year. The proposed amendment is designed to fix THIS problem not THE problem, and also requires that we retroactively enforce a new bylaw on a dog, and potentially your dog, that is already under dangerous dog restrictions with heavy fines for violations. I believe these guidelines need to be more severe, but we have not yet determined if this amendment is enforceable, which could result in being in the same situation we are today. This proposal would not have prevented this problem, or any other problem in Redwood. For people moving into the community it would rely on them notifying us that there dog has been deemed dangerous, highly unlikely. For existing residents it would mean that we would need to have a dog deemed dangerous provincially, an expensive and time consuming process, before we can take action. Solutions to complex problems require examination and debate. |

If we are going to maintain a no fences bylaw, then we also have an obligation to strengthen other areas of legislation to protect children thus exposed, such as reducing car speeds AND having stronger animal control legislation than elsewhere. One attack on a child should be more than enough to galvanize this change. In this situation there were 4. |

No one should have to live in fear of a "dangerous" (and thereby unpredictable) animal reoffending -it's a no-brainer in our unique "no-fence" community with so many families. |

I have grave concerns for the safety of the children in our community. I have lived in Redwood Meadows for over 14 years and we do live in a unique setting without fences. As parents we should not be worried about the safety of our children playing outside because of a dangerous dog. This dog as any dangerous dog should be destroyed! |
