Petitions For Change Blog

The Magical Number

Hey guys! We've reached that magical number of petitions! With 42 petitions the answers to life, the universe and everything are becoming oh so clear!

Thanks for making Petitions For Change your home for petitions! We're still working hard here on the backend to make things better for you and the world around us! Once again thanks for making us a great place to share your petitions!

What is left to come!

Okay so now that I've been back I've gone through and done some tweaking to everything. Some of you may have noticed that there is now a signature goal when you create a petition... this is another feature I'm now working on so that people will see how many signatures there are and how many there are left to go before the goal is reached.

Printer Friendly Version - This isn't terribly important but I would like to get it so that petition and signatures are printable without too much hassle.

More social networking sites on the share page - Finished! Thanks to the "Share This" button this feature is ready to be utilized. I'm keeping the page I created because it has useful BB code and HTML for everyone to easily share a page.

Comments on the blog - This is the next on my list shouldn't be more than a few days away.

Report option for petitions - Once again this one isn't too far off but it's after the comments seeing as we don't have petitions just rolling in right now.

RSS feeds for both the blog, and the petitions - This may take some time... I'm having a heck of a time figuring out how to create the RSS feed in the first place.

Search feature for petitions - This is another tricky one... there are some people who have coded things like this before but they don't exactly fit what I want this to be... of course then there is a full site search with Google they've got some code you can enter, but that doesn't restrict it to petitions alone so this one might take me a bit to figure out.

As you can see there is still much to come, but the site is also progressing nicely!

Back to finish the game

Alright everyone, there was a bit of a long break from things... kinda happens when you've got a 6 month old running around. Primarily I'm a father first and foremost secondly I build websites to help bring in a little extra income. Anyways, I'm getting back into the mix of things as much as I can and going to be putting in some of those features that I had been promising... I had thought about redoing the site in straight up PHP since it is currently done with CakePHP but have found that I really don't have that kind of knowledge since my little obamasurance website is simple and can't even really be accessed by outside people and it continually gets hacked. So I think I'll stick with the Cake for a while since it's obviously more secure than what I have created on my own.

Taking some time

There are a few things that need to be done on this site. I realized a couple of days ago as I was working on another project website that there is no way to get back to a petition once you leave it to either "share" or "Sign" it and also when viewing signatures. Of course that's going to change, but it will be a little while. I've got a new small project website that just came up ObamaSurance. The site is really essential at the core of what I'm doing here. This is something that I'm passionate about, and I feel the American people deserve more knowledge on the subject of government controlled health care. That's why I created ObamaSurance.com to give some insight into what is going on behind the scenes of this campaign.

More updates to come for this site, though it will never be truly perfected that is what I am striving for! The perfect petition website that everyone can be proud of using.

Official Launch Day!

Hello Everyone! Today is the official launch of Petitions For Change! I'm looking forward to amazing activity on the site today and will be personally promoting each and every new petition that touches the site! Depending on how good it is I'll use more services but at minimum I plan on using Twitter and Facebook.

Thanks for visiting and I hope to see the site grow! I'm working hard at this launch, including updating features as the site launches... of course I have to sleep some time so the site won't be kept up to date every minute of the day, but there will be a good amount of new petitions being added, along with promotions galore.

Yet to come

Here are a few of the features that I would like to implement in the near future, and possibly for our July 20th official launch!

  • Printer Friendly Version

  • More social networking sites on the share page

  • Comments on the blog

  • Report option for petitions

  • RSS feeds for both the blog, and the petitions

  • Search feature for petitions

And much much more... I just can't think of it all right now. Anyways, it's bed time for me now! Have a great day and I hope to see more people around for the official launch of the site.

Social Media Support

Well we finally have the "Spread the word" pages up for the petitions! The page is by no means complete there will always be new and exciting social media mediums coming around. When they do we will be prepared. Not to mention there are still a great deal of very useful pages yet to be added (FaceBook, Reddit, Twitter, maybe Mixx if we can get it to behave from another page) the list goes on and on. We will continue to work at finding the most effective social media distribution to help you grow your petition exposure!

Things are coming along nicely

Wow! I can't even explain how much has changed and evolved on the site in the last couple of days. I'm sorry that the Blog isn't 100% operational but that is less than important so it's the last thing I'm going to be working on. Most importantly right now is that you are able to create petitions! And sign them! haha, which I know sounds funny but my cousin was testing out the site with me yesterday and one of the first things he says to me is "Uh... are people supposed to be able to sign these?" which of course, yes you are supposed to be able to sign, and now you can!

The next thing I have to do on the petitions is make them "marketable" or at least easily done. I plan on creating some sort of "Share this" page for the petitions where it will have a button for Twitter, Mixx, Buzz, Digg, FaceBook, StumbleUpon and many other social networking sites so that you can easily share each petition with the world.

Then once all of that is done I will make posts on here more easily read, and give you the option to comment. I also have categories for the blog that I would like to create. After all of that is done I think I'm going to add a feature to "Report" petitions. This will give the users the ability to report abusive or or just generally bad petitions to me so I can check them out. It will also give a form of communication between me and the users so if you need help sharing your petition you can tell me and I can do what I can to help share your petition with the world as promised.

Petitions For Change

Hello and welcome! As the very first post on PetitionsForChange.com I would like to give a little bit of information as to what we're all about. Let's face it there are a LOT of petition websites out there, so why do we need a new one? The answer is simple, because the others are not effective at what they do. Many of the other petition websites out there don't pay attention to their users, or evolve with the ever changing world.

They don't care about your cause and would like you to blindly take it up yourself. I have been in internet marketing for nearly 7 years now, I started as a little kid not knowing much of anything. Over the years I've had many trials, victories, and losses in the game of internet marketing. But I have learned a lot, and it is with what I have learned that I would like to share with you and help you to promote and make a successful campaign for your petition.

It's not just me either, my cousin who has been doing internet marketing for longer than myself is helping both teach you how to promote, and we're going to be doing a lot of promoting for you. We don't just promote the content that we agree with, or that makes everyone feel warm and fuzzy inside, but you still have to come up with good content. We will help anyone with a good cause, or that has written an extremely convincing petition. For the rest of you if you ask nicely we may even help you to reword your petition to attract more people, and then market it for you!

Anyways, enough rambling for me, thank you for visiting PetitionsForChange.com and I hope to be able to help you with your endeavors very soon!

Thanks,
Cody Sortore,
PetitionsForChange founder and head developer
